The Aperture Club is very excited to launch our second photographic competition for 2020 sponsored SUNSTUDIOS, BOOMALLI Art Gallery and supported by Bendigo Bank Leichhardt and The Royal Hotel.

The Competition theme is " A Sense of Place".
The Competition Opens: 14 September and Closes: 23 November 2020 - midnight.

‘Concepts can explore attachment or belonging towards a place, national identity and regional awareness.’

There are great prizes totalling $5,000 to be won and the opportunity to have your work on display to the wider community.

The Aperture Club invites you to enter our photographic competition.
The Aperture Club invites you to enter our 2nd IN FOCUS Photographic Competition. The theme of this 2020 competition is "A Sense of Place". All entries need to bring this theme to life in some way.

Our competition is generously supported by SUNSTUDIOS, Bendigo Bank Leichhardt, Boomalli Aborginal Artists Co-op, The Royal Hotel and The Aperture Club with over $5,000 worth of prices.
Entries can be submitted from the 14th of September through to midnight 23 November 2020.

All photographers are encouraged to enter the competition - whether you’re a beginner, an enthusiast or a professional using DSLR, SLR or Mirrorless Cameras. While artistic merit, composition and technical excellence form part of our judging criteria, entries will also be judged on their originality, their overall impact and their subject matter relevance – how they bring the ‘Sense of Place’ theme to life.

Details of Prizes are shown in the Prizes tab on this page. In addition,
finalists, 3 winners and a highly commended will be selected by our judging panel and featured in the Bendigo Bank branch in Leichhardt.

First, Second, Third and Highly Commended place holders will be printed, framed and displayed on the Bendigo Bank's art wall within the Bank's commercial premises for a period of 1 month. All finalists' work will be exhibited as part of a video on a large screen within the bank. All finalists and winners will have the opportunity to be seen by Bendigo Bank customers and community visitors and will benefit from any promotion The Aperture Club and Bendigo Bank secure in the promotion of this exhibition and there after.

Winner and Finalists
1. Winning entries will be displayed at the Bendigo Bank Leichhardt as framed A1 size prints until the end of Jan 2021
2. All Finalists will have the opportunity to visit Sun Studios on a collective date to print their own image for a small paper charge
3. Winners and Finalists will be announced to the press, promoted via social media and publications

Finalists will be displayed on the Bendigo Bank Leichhardt branch's digital monitors and promoted in social media.

# Conditions for retail pop-up at Bendigo Bank Leichhardt
• Winner can select a date of their choice, pending availability
• Prize cannot be exchanged for cash
• Prize has to be redeemed by the original winner
• Winner must source their own Public Liability insurance for the time they are situated in the Retail Pop-Up
• Winner must use our EFTPOS machine to transact while in the Retail Pop-Up.

The cost of entry is $20 for the 3 images including GST.

Please name each file correctly. Images not named correctly will not be accepted.

Please supply images sized 2700 pixels on the longest edge. File size needs to be below 5 MB.

All entries must include the title of the work and description of each work.

If selected as a winner, you will need to provide a high res version of the winning image and a brief artists statement of up to 100 words.
We will call you if you are one of the winners.

If your work features a person please ensure you have a release form.

All work must be the original work of the entrant.

Judging will take place on 29th of November 2020. The finalists and winners will be contacted on the 30th of November and winners will be asked to provide a high res image for printing. Public announcement of the winners and price giving will take place on Wednesday the 11th of December 2019 at the Bendigo Bank Leichhardt branch. If the winner is under the age of 18 years, the prize will be awarded with their parent or legal guardian present.

Submissions will be judged by
+ Sandy Edwards, a key figure in Australian Photography, Photographer and Owner of ARTTHERE, Curator and Judge of Australian Life Exhibition.
+ Sharon Hickey, Professional Photographer, Exhibitor and Owner of The Aperture Club and Sharon Hickey Photography. Sharon is a professional photographer in Sydney working in television, films, commercial and editorial areas of photography. Sharon started The Aperture Club in 2014 to help hone peoples creative journey in photography.
+ Anthony Browell, Photographer. Anthony has practised in Sydney as both an exhibiting and commercial illustrative photographer, as well as starting the Australian Centre for Photography in 1976. He has specialised in portraiture, pinhole, and architectural photography, in addition to all manner of corporate and editorial work.

Judging will be according to the following criteria:

1. The relevance of the submitted photo to the theme in question, as decided by our judge.
2. Artistic interpretation of the theme, as decided by our judge.
3. Originality of the submission. Entries that are deemed to not belong to or be taken by the user will not be eligible.

While artistic merit, composition and technical excellence form part of our judging criteria, entries will also be judged on their originality, their overall impact and their subject matter relevance – how they bring the ‘Sense of Place’ theme to life.

The Judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Prizes cannot be transferred. Non-cash prizes cannot be redeemed for cash.

The Aperture Club as the promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entry which, in their opinion includes objectionable content, profanity, potentially insulting, inflammatory or defamatory statements, disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process, who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions of entry or who has, in the opinion of the promoter, engaged in conduct in entering the competition which is fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the promotion and/or promoter. The promoter reserves the right to disqualify a winner if the promoter becomes aware that the winner and/or the winner’s entry is of a type described in this clause.
Use of images:

- All images entered in the competition remain the property of the photographer and may be used by The Aperture Club on the website and social media channels of The Aperture Club and its associated partners. These images and associated usernames will be public to all.

- By entering the competition and accepting the terms and conditions you agree that you hereby license the rights to use your photo submission to the Aperture Club and its associated partners on any of its websites or social media channels, or for advertising and promotion of its products, services, and/or its company in any media now known or hereafter developed in perpetuity in exchange for no compensation of any kind.

Use of personal information:
-By entering the competition and accepting the terms and conditions, you agree that The Aperture Club may use your personal details for the purpose of conducting the competition, including the use of your name in promotional formats.
- By entering the competition, you give The Aperture Club permission to contact you if you are a winner of the competition for the purpose of distributing your prize to you.
- The Aperture Club reserves the right to request winners to provide proof of identity and proof of residency at the nominated prize delivery address. Identification considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the promoter.

1. Any individual may enter the Competitions. If you are under 18 years old, you must obtain permission from
your parent or legal guardian to enter the Competitions.
2. You may submit up to 2 photographs for the Sense of Place competition;
3. You may only enter the Sense of Place competition by submitting via the instructions on The Aperture Club's
website page found under Special Events tab
4. Subject to the conditions below, you will retain all copyright and any other intellectual property rights in the
5. By submitting your Images to the Competition:
(a) you grant The Aperture Club a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce,
publish, distribute and communicate the Images solely for the purposes of publicising and promoting the
Exhibition and future exhibitions relating to the In Focus program, including on The Aperture Club and
Bendigo Bank websites, social media and other digital media and in electronic and print promotions;
(b) to the extent permitted by law, you irrevocably and unconditionally consent to The Aperture Club's acts
or omissions in relation to your moral rights and rights in the nature of moral rights in the Images which may
or might otherwise constitute a breach or infringement of those moral rights and waive your moral rights and
rights in the nature of moral rights in the Images; and
(c) you agree that, without limitation, The Aperture Club has the unlimited right to use the
Images for the purposes set out in these Terms and Conditions and you will not permit, support, commence
or maintain any action or proceeding on the ground that any version of the Images infringes any of your
moral rights or rights in the nature of moral rights.

6. If your Images are selected from A Sense of Place Competition to be included in the Exhibition:
(a) you grant The Aperture Club a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, publish, distribute and communicate the Images solely for the purposes of hosting the printed Images at the Exhibition and for exhibiting the printed Images at the Exhibition and future promotion by The Aperture Club;

(b) You acknowledge that The Aperture Club will not return any images to you you must personally collect any printed photographs.
7. The entrants whose images are selected as winners in A Sense of Place Competition will be advised by The Aperture Club by phone or by email as soon as possible after being selected as a finalist and will be asked for a high res image for printing purposes. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted.

10. The Aperture Club or Bendigo Bank may decide to publish the results of the Competition.
11. The winning entries in the A Sense of Place Competition will be exhibited between 11 Dec – 20 Jan 2020 at The Bendigo Bank Leichhardt.
12. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
13. By submitting your Images to the Competition, you agree to The Aperture Club accessing and using your personal information that you disclose to us, including as part of the entry form, subject to the Privacy Statement below.
14. By submitting your Images to the Competition, you warrant that:
(a) you are the sole creator and owner of the Images you have submitted;
(b) if relevant, you have the permission of the subject/s, or where a subject is under 18 years old or if otherwise appropriate, the subject's parent or legal guardian;
(c) if you are under 18 years old, you have obtained your parent or legal guardian's permission to enter the Competition;
(d) the Images do not infringe any third party's intellectual property rights;
(e) the Images were not taken by trespassing on anyone's property or invading anyone's privacy;
(f) you have complied with all applicable laws, regulations and codes and obtained all necessary releases to submit your Images to the Competition

The Aperture Club are the founders of ‘A Sense of Place,’ Competition which commenced in 2019 and we are very excited to be having our second competition for 2020.

We believe that learning your craft and developing your photographic skill and direction is a profoundly fore filing and satisfying personal achievement.

We run a variety of workshops on many varied topics to help guide you to achieve this goal. Our workshops are run by Professional Photographers who are passionate and excited about photography and all its possibilities.

We created A Sense of Place photographic competition to enable all photographers to experience and also learn the art of exhibiting and engaging in competitions.
Seeing your work and others displayed, appreciated and in the public eye is a very satisfying process and a wonderful learning process.
