About Urbanity

This group photography exhibition explores the evolving nature of urban life in the post-urbanisation era. As cities decentralise and technology reshapes human interaction, photographers capture the tension between growth and decline, connection, and isolation.

The exhibition showcases work that highlights abandoned spaces, urban renewal, and the shifting rhythms of city life. Images of empty streets, derelict buildings, and overgrown infrastructure contrast with those of thriving digital hubs, smart city innovations, and newly revitalised neighbourhoods. Themes of isolation emerge in photographs of individuals absorbed in their screens, while others depict community resilience through public art, green spaces, and local initiatives.

Through a mix of documentary, street, and conceptual photography, Post-Urban challenges viewers to consider the future of the city. Are we witnessing urban decline or transformation? Does technology unite us or create barriers? Is the essence of urban life fading, or is it simply evolving into something new?

This exhibition invites photographers to capture these paradoxes, using light, shadow, and composition to explore what it means to live in a post-urban world. The result is a compelling visual dialogue about how we navigate cities – and whether they still bring us together.

About Aperture’s In Focus Collective

The In Focus Collective is a dynamic group of photographers from The Aperture Club, united by a passion for creative growth and storytelling through photography. With experience ranging from professional to emerging, the collective partaking in this Photography Exhibition consists of 26 members, each bringing a unique perspective to their work.

Committed to pushing their photographic boundaries, the group explores themes that challenge conventional urban narratives. Through workshops, on-location shoots, and collaborative critique sessions, members refine their technical skills while developing their artistic voices.

For this exhibition, the In Focus Collective turned their lenses toward Post-Urbanisation, capturing the shifting landscapes of ‘The Modern City’. Some photographers highlight abandoned spaces where nature reclaims the built environment, while others focus on the rise of smart technology and digital isolation. Light, shadow, and composition become tools to explore whether cities still connect us or if they are becoming more fragmented than ever.

The collective’s work reflects both technical skill and a deep curiosity about how urban life is evolving. Through this exhibition, they invite viewers to question their own relationship with the city—its past, present, and perhaps, uncertain future.
